This charming Cartier Tank, dating to 1935, comes in 18k yellow gold and was retailed in London, with London import marks shown on the inside of the case back. The watch features a clean silvered dial, with black Arabic numerals, and a case in good condition, engraved with ‘A. E. H. VILLIERS GRENADIER GUARDS 3.11.1940’, meaning this watch was presented to a serving member of the British military during World War Two.

The man we believe the watch belonged to was Alistair Edward Hyde Villiers, who achieved the rank of Lt-Colonel in the Grenadier Guards and whose mother was cousin to Winston Churchill.
